For decades the guyed lattice test tower has dominated the skyline of Hughes Brothers. We have tested over 100 full scale structures using this tower as a pulling guide, using pulleys and cables to simulate transverse wind loads on structures of many configurations. Why would we take this down you might ask? We just completed the largest building in the history of the company, surely there is no more expansion planned, right? Wrong! Hughes Brothers has even bigger plans and Steve, Stan, Larry, and Matt's beloved tower just happened to be in the way. We just signed a contract to begin planning on a new galvanizing facility to replace our current operations. Not only will this reduce our environmental impact and increase the safety of our employees, but mainly, increase our output. As each factory expansion occurs, another bottleneck is exposed and then we must decide whether to address it. In this case it again seemed to be a no-brainer. We want to keep all the galvanizing possible in-house here at Hughes Brothers. Our spinners were outdated and there are many improvements on the market in chemicals to improve our environmental impact. We are always looking forward.
Do not fear, the tower will be resurrected in another area north of the factory so that we will be able to test full-scale structures again. We are not sure where yet, but we have a couple of options. Be assured that we saved it, and it will rise above the test site again!
